Week 2 — 20 Sep 2004
From: JeffTo: mnf@fat.doobie.com
Subject: It's Monday...
...week 2 is nearly over, and six teams are 2-0, including Detroit, Jacksonville, The Jets, and Atlanta (none of whom made the playoffs last year). The other two are New England and Seattle, but you knew that already.
And yes, the Redskins turned over the ball 7 times yesterday. The Giants should be embarassed that the score was so close.
Tonight, we've got one of the better matchups that we're likely to see this year. It'll be a battle of two high-paid quarterbacks who throw the ball at higher-paid receivers, none of whom seem to be able to keep their mouth shut when they see a microphone.
I'm of course talking about Donovan McNabb, Daunte Culpepper, Terrell Owens, and Randy Moss. Because, tonight, the 1-0 Minnesota Vikings go to Philadelphia to take on the 1-0 Eagles at 68,532 seat on the natural grass of Lincoln Financial Field. (A far cry from the turf at Veteran's stadium... once called the worst rug seen on MNF since the days of Cosell)
The Line, according to Bet365.com:
The Eagles are favored by 3. The over/under is 49.
With these showboaters on the sidelines and the extra cameras of monday night... you'd think that the smart money should go on the over. But it's not. The money's on the Vikings to beat the spread, if not win the game outright, with a potential side bet that Philly gives up at least 2 turnovers.
Why? Because the Vikings cornerbacks are better than T.O., and the Eagles don't know that yet.
The Bar: This week, we'll be revisiting the Royal Exchange downtown. Convenient for all of the working stiffs in the financial district. Try not to spill your Guiness on the suit next to you.
The Royal Exchange 301 Sacramento St @ Front St. Two blocks from the Embarcadero Muni/BART station
Kickoff is at 6:00
See you there?
